I believe if you clicked onto this post, you either need direction right now or you want to help someone else who needs it. Wherever you are on this topic, I pray that this post helps you or that individual. With that being said, I’m going to dive straight into this one, because you need answers. I totally get it! So here’s my advice to you as you read this:

  • Pray today – I can’t stress this enough. If you need direction or answers, the Lord is definitely the One who knows exactly what you need to do. So pray, It may seem like the simplest answer, but it’s actually the best starting place. Remember, becoming a daughter of the Father has a lot to do with relationship. So talk to Him.

Look into the open sky (or just lift up your head) and tell Him what you need. I have a plaque in my living room that reads, “Thank God for what you have, trust Him for what you need.” Philippians 4:6 tells us, “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.” Go for it, today.

  • Fast – Sometimes you may need to pray and fast for direction. Fasting just has an amazing way of reaching God in new heights in your walk with Him. It’s a time of sacrifice and seeking more of Him, as well as seeking Him for direction. Moses fasted 40 days and 40 nights when he went up to Mount Sinai before receiving the Ten Commandments. Deuteronomy 9:9 says, “…I was there forty days and forty nights, and all that time I ate no food and drank no water.”

And let’s not forget about Queen Esther who called a fast among herself and her people (the Jews), to get direction and courage to approach her king (husband) to save them from annihilation. Well, God answered! And they were saved! A good book that I recommend if you would like to learn more about this topic is entitled, “Fasting” by Jentezen Franklin.

  • Seek Wise Counsel – Don’t be afraid or too prideful to ask for wise counsel or advice. God can use others to get a good word of direction to you. It really does help. However, I do want to caution you as you seek counsel. Simply make sure that it lines up with God’s Word and His ways…which brings me to my next point.
  • Let the Word of God lead the way – In other words, let the Word light your path. Let it show you what next steps you need to take. What is God’s Word saying to you in this particular season or situation? Have you opened it?

The key that opens the door for direction is through faith and by also reading the Word and then following its wise instruction. King David said in Psalm 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet, and a light to my path.” (ESV) Often times, the direction we need is found right in a passage of Scripture that either the Holy Spirit has revealed to us in devotion, through a sermon, an article or blog, or bumper sticker on someone’s vehicle. Sometimes it’s an echo of the same verse everywhere! Look for His answers.

Personally, I just had a recent experience when I was seeking God for direction. I really needed to know what to do. And as I sat quietly, outside under the open sky, I prayed, “Lord, I need direction. What do you want me to do?” And I’ll tell you, I waited patiently, and shortly thereafter, it came. The Holy Spirit whispered to me, “It’s in My Word.” And He reminded me of a passage of Scripture that He’d already been showing me. I knew without a shadow of a doubt what to do. God had given me direction! And I’m following His path!

I pray this helps you, my sister. Pray and look for Him. He’s a faithful Father. He will not leave you in the dark. His Word will light the way when you need direction. So hold onto this encouraging little card reminder that I bought years ago, “Trust in His timing. Rely on His promises. Wait for His answers. Believe in His miracles. Rejoice in His goodness. Relax in His presence. Come near to God and He will come near to you.” 😉

Remember, Jesus is coming back soon! And those who endure unto the end shall be saved. So let’s be ready from the Inside Out!
